LAUGHTER

Letting The Relationship Breathe

Life with another person will always contain friction.
Tired days.
Missed cues.
Little absurdities that would feel heavy if you could not also laugh.

The old pattern is to let everything become serious.
Every misunderstanding is a threat.
Every difference is a problem to solve.
The atmosphere gets tight and careful.

Laughter is how your nervous systems remember that you are on the same side.
It is a small rebellion against the part of the mind that wants to turn every moment into a test.
A shared joke is proof that you can look at the same strange world and feel delight together.

This is not about using humor to dodge real issues.
It is about keeping a bit of light in the room while you face them.
The ability to laugh together in hard seasons can be as bonding as any big romantic gesture.

Love, here, is making room for play, even in a universe that can feel very intense.

PRACTICE

Think of one small thing that reliably makes both of you smile or laugh, maybe a silly video, a story from your past, or a song you sing badly together. In the next tense or heavy stretch, intentionally bring that thing in for a moment. Share the clip, tell the story, or start the song. Let yourselves laugh if it comes, even if the day is not perfect. Afterward, take one breath together and notice how your bodies feel when there is a little more air in the space between you.
