GRATITUDE

Letting the Good Actually Count

Your brain is excellent at looking for what’s missing.
What’s late.
What’s broken.
What might explode tomorrow.

That kept your ancestors alive.
It also makes “not enough” feel like the default setting.

Gratitude doesn’t ask you to pretend everything is fine.
It asks you to also notice what’s already holding you up.

The light in your room.
A friend who gets your weird jokes.
A body that keeps showing up for you, even on the days you’re harsh with it.
The fact that out of everything happening in the universe, your senses get to touch this tiny slice of it.

When you let those things register all the way in, even for a few extra seconds, something in your baseline shifts.
Same life. Different relationship to it.

Love, here, is letting reality be a little bigger than just what hurts or isn’t done yet.

PRACTICE

Right now, pick one ordinary thing near you. A chair, a song, the can in your hand. For five slow breaths, quietly name three ways it supports you.

Stay with the sense of “this is here for me” a little longer than feels natural. That extra few seconds is where gratitude starts to do its work.
