EMPATHY

Letting Your Body Listen Too

You do not read people only with your mind.
Your whole body is taking in signals.

The way someone’s voice softens on one word.
The way their shoulders drop when they say they are tired.
Even over a screen or a text, something in you gets a feel for them.

The old pattern is to stay in your own story.
You hear enough to reply, then go back to your inner channel.

Empathy is a quiet shift in attention.
You let your body be an antenna for a moment.
You notice how your chest feels when they talk.
You notice the small urge to lean in, to reach out, to soften your face.

Science says our systems mirror each other more than we think.
Hearts sync up.
Breathing patterns match.
Touch, even from far away through a message or a voice note, can carry real comfort.

Love, here, is the choice to care about what it feels like to be them, not just what it means for you.

PRACTICE

In your next real conversation, give yourself one simple assignment. While they speak, gently relax your jaw and shoulders and imagine sitting on their side of the table. Ask yourself, if I were in their body right now, what might I be feeling. When they finish, offer one sentence that reflects that guess and one genuine question, then let them correct you if needed. You are not trying to be perfect. You are training your system to feel with, not just think about.
